Giving Blood

Called in tonight to give Blood for the second time, what a hugely rewarding thing to do.

Even if by necessity you are part of the herd laid up on modified camp beds whilst you watch the red stuff, (nope mine ain't blue) trundling its way into a bag much like watching fine wine make its way from the demijohn to the bottle.

A real range of people go, from the seasoned veteran who is done in a couple of minutes, to the very nervous first timer who is quite petrified of needles. Believe me it hurts more when you have your finger pricked to check your iron levels than it does to have the needle inserted.

Was fascinating watching the iron test, basically in a copper oxide liquid a drop of your blood is dropped and if it sinks your fine, thankfully mine did, Ol would have loved it as it was green, that's the copper not my blood.

Why am I doing it, well some of you may remember when Archie was born Caroline was very ill and had to have a number of blood transfusions, at one point it was leaking out just about as fast as it went in, and I promised that I would get over my fear of needles and give blood at least until I had put as much back as was given to Caroline.

I have a few more times to go yet and at the end of the day there is always a shortage, so go to the website and give it a go, you never know you may just save someones life, now wouldn't that be good!

Oh and don't worry it will take some time there are never enough beds and of course there are some very busy times but believe me you will grow some more and you will feel good about it!
